We Sing! We Rise! We Soar! – A Day at Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall, with its storied history and breathtaking acoustics, once again served as the backdrop for an unforgettable performance. On June 9th at 2 PM, the air buzzed with anticipation as attendees gathered for one of the most anticipated concerts of the season: "We Sing! We Rise! We Soar!" This event, a harmonious collaboration between the renowned composers Christopher Tin and Greg Gilpin, showcased the power of music to elevate the human spirit.

As a photographer who frequents this legendary venue, the challenge lies not in capturing the grandeur of Carnegie Hall – a feat I am well-accustomed to – but in encapsulating the unique magic each performance brings. This concert was no exception.

The first half of the performance, led by Greg Gilpin, was a celebration of young voices. Gilpin, a dynamic presence on stage, has a knack for bringing out the best in his singers. His pieces ranged from the Latin-infused "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" to the stirring "We Sing! We Rise! We Soar!" Each note was a testament to the young performers' dedication and Gilpin’s inspiring leadership. The audience couldn't help but be drawn into the infectious energy radiating from the stage.

Following a brief intermission, the spotlight shifted to Christopher Tin, whose compositions have earned him two Grammy Awards. Tin's selections included some of his most beloved works, such as "Baba Yetu" and "Sogno di Volare" from Civilization VI. As the choir's voices soared, accompanied by the sweeping melodies of the orchestra, it was easy to see why Tin's music resonates deeply with so many. The ethereal solos by Holly Sedillos and Jimmer Bolden added an extra layer of enchantment to the evening.

Capturing these moments through my lens was a profound experience. The blend of youthful exuberance and seasoned artistry created a rich tapestry of sound and emotion. The performers, many of whom were stepping onto the Carnegie Hall stage for the first time, sang their hearts out, leaving everything on the stage. The standing ovation they received was a testament to their talent and the timeless beauty of the music.

For those unfamiliar with my work, I strive to do more than just take pictures. I aim to tell a story with each shot, to freeze moments in time that reflect the essence of the performance. Events like "We Sing! We Rise! We Soar!" are perfect for this because they are brimming with passion, dedication, and the sheer joy of making music.

If you're looking to capture the spirit of your next performance, whether it's a grand event at a venue like Carnegie Hall or a more intimate setting, I would be honored to help tell your story.
