A Soul-Stirring Afternoon at David Geffen Hall: The Music of Michael John Trotta

I've had the pleasure of capturing countless memorable performances. On March 26 at 2 pm, I had the opportunity to photograph the concert titled "Seven Last Words," featuring the breathtaking music of composer Michael John Trotta. The afternoon was an emotional and profound experience for all present, as the audience was taken on a journey through the powerful texts and music inspired by the Bible and Christian tradition.

The concert began with the piece that inspired the name of the concert, "Seven Last Words," a piece divided into seven movements, each representing a different emotion experienced during the Passion. Conducted by Catherine Sailer, the work showcased a wide range of emotions from forgiveness to hope, compassion to despair, and acceptance to resignation. The captivating solo performances by Lauren Lestage and Mark Winston added an extra layer of depth to the already poignant piece, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Following "Seven Last Words," Larry Bach conducted the energetic and reflective "Te Deum" and "Gloria." These pieces, also composed by Trotta, captivated the audience with their poignant reflections on some of the oldest Christian hymns and texts. From triumphant harmonies to moments of serene introspection, Trotta's compositions deeply resonated with the listeners, creating an unforgettable atmosphere within the magnificent David Geffen Hall.

The entire afternoon was a testament to the power of music to evoke deep emotions and create a sense of connection among those present. As a photographer, I am grateful for the opportunity to document these moments and share the beauty of these performances with a wider audience.
