Celebrating the Next Generation of Musicians at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall
I recently had the privilege of photographing another concert at the prestigious Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall. The event, named Windsongs, featured four exceptional high school ensembles from Diamond Bar High School in California and New Trier High School in Illinois, bringing together the remarkable talent of young musicians. The concert showcased the passion, skill, and dedication of these students, who captivated the audience with their powerful performances.
A Magical Evening of Music: The evening began with the spirited performance of Diamond Bar High School Wind Ensemble, led by Marie Santos. They were followed by the school's Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Steven Acciani and guest conductor Dr. Pierre Long-Tao Tang. Both groups filled the hall with delightful harmonies, setting the stage for an evening of enchanting music.
As the concert progressed, the ensembles from New Trier High School took over the spotlight. The Wind Symphony, under the direction of Matt Temple and Elizabeth Bennett, demonstrated their exceptional skills through a series of intricate pieces. The Symphony Orchestra, directed by Peter Rosheger, with Elizabeth Bennett and violoncellist Johannes Gray, showcased their ability to evoke powerful emotions through their music, leaving the audience enthralled.
Throughout the night, the young musicians presented a diverse and captivating program that included works by renowned composers such as Michael Markowski, Mikhail Glinka, Johann Michael Haydn, James Barnes, and Hector Berlioz. The night showcased the talent of these young musicians who tackled these challenging pieces with confidence, displaying their versatility and virtuosity while paying homage to the rich history of music.
