Have you been thinking about learning about photography? Or do you know a bit about photography already but you want to learn more about the business end? Maybe you’ve never even picked up a camera before and you want to make sure you’re starting on the right foot.
This is your chance to learn everything you need to know about photography from somebody who already has an established business and has made all of the mistakes along the way so that you don’t have to. These sessions are best suited for beginning photographers, but I can work with anybody!
This is your chance to take everything I’ve learned over the past 8 years and condense it down into manageable pieces! This will save you so much time and hassle, and it’s worth the investment.
A coffeehouse session will last about 1-2 hours. You can feel free to come prepared with as many questions as you’d like (or none at all). Either way, you should come prepared for a lot of info. We’ll meet up for coffee, a beer, or any other sort of drink you like, and we’ll talk about everything that goes into the business. You should come prepared with some way to take notes.
Here are some topics we can cover:
Workflow (everything from first meeting a potentially client through to delivering the final images)
Constructive feedback on your portfolio as a cohesive body of work
Constructive feedback on individual images
Constructive feedback on your website
Tailoring your online persona to attract your ideal clients
Technical shooting tips (composition, exposure triangle, what settings to use when)
How to shoot in manual mode
Lighting (both on and off camera)
Goal setting for your business
How to price your work
How to edit your photos (and edit them consistently)
Selecting which images to deliver from a session
File organization and backup
and much more! I recommend coming with an idea of a few topics that you find the most interesting and then we can see where we go from there. Of course, the session isn’t limited to these topics. If there is something you want to speak about that isn’t on this list please let me know and we can make that happen.
If you don’t live in Manhattan or the surrounding area I also offer the coffeehouse session online! This will be exactly the same thing, but over the internet, so you will not miss out on any of the information. I only offer these sessions if you don’t live in New York City. I prefer to meet in person when possible!
In this session we’ll spend about 45 minutes photographing our human models or 25 minutes photographing our dog model (whichever you want to choose. Dogs have less of an attention span so even my paying dog sessions only get about 20-30 minutes of shooting before the dog is over it). I will walk you through an entire session and give you tips to pose your clients and prompts to help them look natural and comfortable. If you don’t know how to make your clients comfortable you will not have a successful shoot, so that’s the most important part. Once we’re done we’ll head to a nearby coffeeshop where we’ll go through the images together, select the best ones, and talk about how to edit them.
Depending on your skill level this session can be as hands on or hands off as you would like it to be. It can range from me setting the model(s) up and you shooting so that you can practice taking pictures in manual mode to you executing the entire shot yourself and me just giving feedback, and anything in between poses.
This is also the perfect session if you’re just starting out because we can even go out with just the two of us and practice some basic techniques.
These sessions are for you, so you don’t have to work about finding models or preparing anything for the shoot. These will not be paying clients, so you don’t even need to worry about how the photos look (although they’re going to look great when we’re done!). These models are solely there for you to practice and I’ll be guiding you every step of the way.
